JACOB'S GAMING SITE

Welcome to my website! Here you'll find a breakdown of my favorite video games that I've played recently, in addition to my projects from this semester.

As for an introduction, my name is Jacob and I'm a big fan of strategy games, old school role-playing games, and MMORPGs. I also enjoy trading card- and tabletop role playing games, though this website will focus on the former categories.

The games I'll focus on are:

Crusader Kings 3: A strategy game where you're tasked with ruling a medieval kingdom and surviving court intrigue.

Of The Devil: A dystopian visual novel where you play the role of a morally complex defense attorney.

The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind: A role-playing game where you bring about a prophecy in a strange fantasy setting.

Elevator pitch for each game below. Sorry, I'm a bit long winded.

Crusader Kings 3 is a game by Paradox Interactive that sees you control a single dynasty as it grows in influence across Europe, Central Asia, Northern Africa, the Middle East, and India. (and soon East and Southeast Asia as well!)

Players can start anywhere they wish, as anyone they wish, and strive to conquer neighbors, placate their often rebellious vassals, and assert the rule of their family.

What makes the game unique compared to other strategy games, is that you are not playing as some disembodied 'spirit of the nation' or observer. Rather, you are playing as specific individuals, that have their own personalities, relationships, and secrets. Because of that, your character can be manipulated by others, get stressed (and potentially die!) by the demands of the crown, or fall in love. But so can every other person in the game's simulated world, spanning from 867-1453.

This is a game for people who like the political intrigue of Game of Thrones (it even has a mod recreating the setting within the game), the history of the middle ages, or for those who like the idea of navigating a tangled web of plots, feudal relations, and war to solidify your family's legacy.

Of The Devil is a visual novel by nth Circle Studios that has you follow the protagonist, a criminal defense attorney, as she investigates cases and defends her clients in a dystopian, corporate-ruled surveillance state.

The game opens with Morgan (that's you) being tasked with defending a man accused of killing his girlfriend. A tough job, considering he was found kneeling over her body, covered in her blood with the murder weapon in hand.

By the way, the cops also think he's 'the Heartbreak Killer', a serial killer whose victims were found with a single shot through the heart, just like his girlfriend. Good luck!

You're tasked with interviewing witnesses, your client, and others while investigating the crime scene, all the while the incredibly well-written characters and interesting setting draw you in. Also the first episode's free, go play it.

If you like murder mysteries, dystopian fiction similar to Blade Runner or Cyberpunk:2077, or characters with more secrets than anything else, this is for you.
The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind is a game by Bethesda Game Studios that has the player embark on an adventure across Vvardenfell, a large island in the the titular Morrowind, a volcanic province of the Empire of Tamriel ruled by an all-powerful tribunal of living gods.

Before your character arrives in the province, a mysterious figure speaks to you in your dreams, assuring you that you are being watched and that she has 'chosen' you. It isn't until later that you learn that you are (probably, there's some ambiguity) the reincarnation of an ancient hero, and the subject of a prophecy that will bring calamitous change.

You control a custom character and are let loose into the game's world to do whatever you want, really. Whether it be perfecting your chosen skills, progressing the story, or exploring countless abandoned ruins and settlements in a world very unlike our own.

This game is for people who like stories similar to Dune, where heroes must negotiate their relationship with fate. It's also by the same people who made Skyrim, this game's far more popular younger brother.
